UPDATE! The Uptown Club is closing down after 7 years and a constant loss of money.
For one, Uptown was a little too early on the Oakland hipster scene so by the time they all moved into Oakland, it was old and uncool.
For two they always tried to charge you $7 to $15 to see bands you’ve never heard of so you simply just didn’t go.
For 3 they had no kind of happy hour or drink specials so you would never make it your go to bar meaning it was dead most hours that a place needs to survive.
4? Too many repairs and building cost?
5? No outside food allowed in yet perfect place to eat and drink.
I’m bummed they mismanaged it in the sense of not offering a cheap place for locals to drink because it really was my favorite venue in Oakland.

Burlesque every Monday night!
Hubba Hubba Revue, a show worth checking out.
$5 cover, 9pm-2am.
The Uptown is an awesome venue. I think it may be my favorite space. There is a lot of room to dance in the main room, the bar has it’s own huge room, there is an upstairs balcony area just as big and an out door smoking patio in back.
However this is not your “go to” bar since they almost always have a cover and there are no drink specials. It is too pricey to hang out at on the regular. It’s pretty much just where you go to see a show. And sadly they kind of never have anyone I want to see but I’ll go for random unknown bands and still have fun. I do love the place and think you should check it out. It’s free every First Friday after Art Murmur every month. But it’s usually jam packed.
