Restrooms are close by. This is a fully permitted party & a beautiful location right by the water/bay! Dogs on leashes only! & no drinking in the parking lot or you will get cited by park police. If you bring hard liquor DO NOT have it visually out in the bottle to be seen by others. Keep it put away in your ice-chest and/or covered up and keep it in cups. Park police will cite you if they see any hard alcohol bottles! Beer and wine is fine. Please clean up after yourselves & respect this location.
Thanks & see you all under the sun!
Oakland is a great place to visit! We may not have the best tourism department at the City of Oakland so these guys took it upon themselves to spread the word!
Well I am testing out a new poll feature of the blog here so please participate.
It’s a pretty simple question. But I want to hear your reasons as well.
Post comments by using the button below and let me know why?
This is a picture of the Port of Oakland shipping container cranes at one of the berths. It was taken from a Ferry on the Ports Free Harbor Tours. As you have probably heard George Lucas got his idea for the AT-AT Walkers (All Terrain Armored Transport) from the Port of Oakland Cranes while flying into the Bay Area’s Oakland International Airport (OAK)at one time. Can it be confirmed? Who knows the truth. I think it is highly possible because he does live here in the North Bay. However he claims recently that this is NOT the case. George Lucas says he did not get his AT AT Walker idea from the Port Cranes. Is this true? Would he give the Shipping Container Cranes credit for his Walkers? Or would he say it is obviously an unique idea created purely by my own imagination?
First of all I love this building, it has always been my favorite and will always be.
The Oakland Tribune Clock Tower is a famous Oakland Landmark. It was declared a landmark on May 4, 1976 after about 70 years of life. The Tower was actually built in two stages. The six floors of base were completed in 1907 and the clock tower section was finished in 1923.
In recent years the Tower was damaged in the 1989 Loma Prieta Earthquake. Because the building was not occupied the Oakland Tribune Newspaper had to relocate. The Tower remained empty until 1995 and was bought and renovated. Ten years later in 1999 the great Tower was reopened. To this date it is occupied with condos and businesses. My company is actually locate din the Tower as well.
The Tower is a part of Oakland and will always be. It was recently sold for about $15 million dollars so I don’t think it will be going anywhere anytime soon.
I figured I would share this picture with you since you’re all so cool and frequent my new blog. Of course a lot of you have seen it but the new comers, googlers and stumblers have not yet.
Because it is pretty damn big you will have to open it in a new window and then click it to view full size.
Hope you like it!
Leave a comment, let me know what you think! And Yes I have my other site on there however it is being reworked. If you would like to see all of my photography please visit my Oakland Photos on flickr.
The Ordway building is the tallest building in Oakland and tallest building in the Bay Area outside of San Francisco. It is 28 floors high and was built in 1970. The Architecture for this building was Skidmore, Owings & Merrill. It will remain the tallest building for a while, other buildings are in the works but have yet to gain approval. There is a group of cry babies complaining about Oakland having tall buildings. Oakland is awesome, let it reach for the sky.
New design folks! Grab em while they’re hot. be the first to rock one in your hood. Oakland is proud and you should be too. This displays our lovely Oakland oak tree as well! You can buy your shirt here on CafePress.com
Oakland, CA – July 4th, 2008 Jack London Square Firework Display by the Port of Oakland Building.
What a grand display, here are a few photos I took of the event. You can find them on my Oakland flickr photos.
The Lakeshore Café is a GREAT place to get a Weekend Brunch. Whether it be Saturday or Sunday they have an amazing menu and specials on Mimosas. Yes, that’s right $2 Mimosas! Well $1.95 to be exact. They serve both Orange and Strawberry. The brunch special goes from 10am till 4pm both days. This is located on Lake Shore Avenue in the Grand Lake area of Lake Merritt right across from Trader Joe’s near the Saturday Farmers Market.
They have an amazing staff, very friendly and quick. They’re always smiling, nice and personable. The food is A+++ and you can leave with a nice bubbly buzz all for under $30 for 2 people. While it may look like a long wait you typically wait no longer than 10 minutes. They have a lot of seating and also a small out door patio as well as sidewalk seating. Just Do It! Check them out! *update* I have a link to their site and an image from their site but it seems they do not have a real hosting company because it is always down and always says bandwidth exceeded. How sad. You should just go, trust me it’ll be good.
I suggest the Tequila Sausage Scramble and some Strawberry Mimosas.

Be sure to visit the Port of Oakland‘s official website to sign up today! Hurry before it’s too late! And who knows, you may even see me on board taking pictures. *UPDATE* As many of you know they are NOT doing the Tour this year(2009). Sad but true.
