Oakland National Night Out 2009 Tuesday August 4th. Get together with your neighbors, stay out after dark, celebrate your neighbors in a safe fun matter.
National Night Out is the nation’s night out against crime. Sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch, residents are encouraged to join with their neighbors to have a neighborhood block party, ice cream social or other outdoor event to build neighborhood spirit and unity – which is the first defense against crime. Research shows that when neighbors know each other and look out for each other crime goes down.
Time: August 15-16, 2009 -Noon-6pm
Cost: $10 at door; $5 Youth 13-17 & Seniors 65+; 12 & under free
It looks like they changed the date? This years Oakland Art and Soul festival will be held on August 15th and 16th! Same downtown location.
Same concept, tons of stages with music, plenty of places to eat and buy random art.

I know this isn’t very Oakland related but this was something I would always look forward to and my dad would always take me. Well I had no idea it was this weekend and figured I would share with you guys incase some of you are as excited about this as me!!!!

I think it’s been many years since they did an Air Show at Travis AFB. Since like 9/11 maybe? Anyways they are hosting one this year under the name “Travis Air Force Base Air Expo” and they will have The Thunderbirds which you do not want to miss! How amazing is F-16A Falcons screaming over your head?

This summertime party is located at the Lake Merritt Sailboat House and includes DJ’s, food and beer, and free gondola rides. You can also go out for a spin on the Lake on other half-priced boat rentals. Bring your radio, because the event also features an FM microbroadcast so you can listen to the music while out on the water. This event is free for all ages.
